A DIY Guide to Seat Cushion Replacement

If you are a DIY enthusiast and you need to replace the seat cushions on the various chairs around your house, then this guide is for you.

Find Your Foam

If you want a comfy and supportive cushion, then you’re going to want to find a high-quality foam that will provide both of those traits. Compare the various foam manufacturers to determine who has the best quality for the best available price.

Carve Your Foam

Once you’ve received your foam of choice, take an electric carving knife and cut the oversized piece of foam down to size. Make sure that when you’re cutting the foam that the blade is cutting in a vertical fashion. Once the foam has been cut down to size, take your knife and trim the excess foam from the ends. Also note that many seat cushions need to be rounded out. This can be easily down by measuring each corner with a ruler and marking cut lines so that you have a rounded plane that you can cut around.

Add Your Quilt Batting

Once the foam has been cut to size, take some quilt batting and fasten it over the foam. Follow it by stapling it with 3/8” staples. Trim the excess batting but be careful not to cut too close to the foam.

Place the Cushion Inside

Take your seat cushion cover and place the newly-made cushion inside. Now, you can either staple it together if it’s a flat material, or if it’s a cover that can be unzipped, you can just simply place it back without any other steps. Your cushion replacement project is now complete and you can sit back and enjoy the comforts of your chair without worrying about replacing it for a long period of time.
